The onboard NIC seems to stop Server 2012 R2 from installing. If you disable the NIC it works fine but obviously no network connection. I have tried multiple NIC drivers but none make the onboard NIC work.
Have to stick with 2012 for now.
UPDATE : This has now been fixed. See the post below on how to fix it.
