Well I took the plunge and updated to the GM of iPhone OS 3.0. Once updated the iPhone booted up and sat on activating for ages……………

Eventually it activated. Shortly after activating I got a text from o2 saying :-

MMS is now setup for you. We will let you know when it is setup and ready to use.

About an hour later I got a MMS from O2 saying its all setup and ready to use. As you can see below, sends and receives fine.

At last the iPhone now has MMS and joins every other phone in having it.

Below is a step by step guide on how to setup your iPhone with your work email address.

Please note: Please update your iPhone to the latest software before attempting this. You should be running at least 2.0.

Steps to follow:

1. Tap Settings ->

2. Scroll down to Mail, Contacts, Calendars ->

3. Add Account…

4. You’ll be presented with several options, but you want to pick the one at the top: Microsoft Exchange.

5. Now it’s time to enter in your login credentials and Exchange details. Here’s what it all should look like:

The domain is the value in the 3rd box down at the CTRL + ALT + DELETE screen when you login to a computer at work.

6. Tap Next

7. You will then be presented with the same screen again but with 1 added field. “Server”. This is your outlook web access address minus the https:// bit. So if your OWA address is https://outlook.microsoft.com then you would put in outlook.microsoft.com.

8. Hit Next. Your iPhone will try to verify your Exchange server. If you get a box up about a certificate. “Unable to Verify Certificate” message. Tap Accept.

9. This time your account will be verified and you’ll be prompted to choose what you want to sync. Turn on whichever services you plan on using (don’t worry, you can always change these settings later) and tap Save to finish.

10. That’s all there is to it. Your iPhone is now ready to handle push email sent to your work email address.

WARNING!!!!!!

If you choose to sync contacts and calendars through your work, your phone’s current contacts and calendars will be deleted and synced with work.

I found that my battery life took a MASSIVE hit. It was depleted within around 8 hours.

So I downgraded back to 2.2.1 but it didn’t role back the baseband. Battery life was still bad.

I found out about an app called Fuzzy Baseband Downgrader in Cydia.

Once i had jailbreaked my phone I downloaded it in cydia.

Now all is good and battery life back to normal.

I jumped the gun when 2.2.1 came out and upgraded. I then found out that you could no longer unlock the iPhone to any network using yellowsn0w.

Yesterday though I found a nifty tool which you can use to downgrade your iPhone 3G to an older Baseband allowing unlock again.

I have compilied all the information together that I have read and made hopefully an easy tutorial to follow below.

First of all you need to be running bootloader 5.8 in order to do this. If you are running 5.9 then sorry you are out of luck.

To find out what version of bootloader you are running then do the following :-

- Download the required files here
- Download MobileTerminal in Cydia
- SSH the files above to /private/var/root
- Open MobileTerminal on the iPhone (Case Sensitive)
- Enter : su
- Enter : alpine
- Enter : chmod 755 BBUpdaterExtreme
- Enter : launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
- Enter : ./BBUpdaterExtreme queryversion

You will then get loads of output displayed. You need to find the bootloader version. If you are not running 5.8 then you cannot continue.

When you run the launchctl command the mobile signal drops. You might find that the iPhone reboots after a while. This is normal as Apple have made it do this if the service is not running for a while. If it does just let it reboot and be quicker next time.

- Reboot iPhone
- Enter : su
- Enter : alpine
- Enter : cd /var/root
- Enter : launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
- Enter : ./BBUpdaterExtreme update -f ICE2_02.28.00.fls -e ICE2_02.28.00.eep

It will then do the flashing. Once its finished type reboot and you should now be running 2.28. Load on yellowsn0w and should now be unlocked.

I actually found when i did mine I wasn’t quick enough to type the last line and the iPhone rebooted before I had chance. In the end I typed only the update command in mobileterminal and SSH’d in to type in the rest up until then. Then hit enter on iPhone and off it went.

Hope this helps someone.

I have bought a few apps on the iPhone but none have ever compelled me to blog about them. This was until I bought a little game for 59p called Flight Control made by a company called Firemint.

I found it in the App Store at number 1 and it had LOADS of good reviews. So I thought what the hell and purchased it.

In the game you play the role of an air traffic controller at a very busy airport. 4 different types of aircraft, a small byplane, a medium plane, a jumbo jet, and a helicopter appear from the edge of the screen. The aircraft are coloured and they must land on the matching coloured runway by drawing the planes flight path with your finger.

You have to be careful though as if 2 aircraft crash togetether then its game over. The ingame tutorial shows you the objective.

I must warn you that this game is sooooooo addictive its unbelieveable addictive. You keep trying and trying to beat your best score. My best so far is 90.

The game does have one problem though, compared to other games in the app store. That is the capability to exit out of the game, answer the phone, send an email then go back into it and resume your last game. Games like Sentinal have this feature. You never know when your phone will ring. Imagine almost having a high score and then the phone ringing. ARGGGGHHHH!!!

It would also be nice to have more levels. Maybe something like land 100 planes and then move onto next level etc.

Maybe i’m just being too picky for 59p. Its going to be interesting to see if there are any updates to this game or if this is it.

My advice though is buy it now before it goes up in price.

PROS

CHEAP
HIGHLY ADDICTIVE
SO SIMPLE TO PLAY (EVEN MY 5 YR OLD CAN)

CONS

NO SAVE ON EXIT
NO ONLINE LEADERBOARD
MIGHT LACK LONGETIVITY
